Beehiiv Stops Payouts for Web Clicks: Important Update for Publishers

·
·

Just learnt from Beehiiv that they have stopped giving payout for web clicks (no announcement was shared as far as I could tell) I regularly get far more traffic on my website (due to social sharing) compared email. E.g. my last post got 67 Ad clicks but they didn't show up in Ad report. Reached out to support and they told me they have stopped giving credit for Web clicks. It sucks for publishers since web traffic can sometimes grow to be quite high compared to email. Sharing so others can know (in case you also rely on web-based Ad click payout).

Thanks for getting back. Ya, would be helpful to get a heads up for such changes in future. I haven't setup the storefront yet - do you think it can work well for someone like me who gets far more traffic via web than email? Happy to try it out but would appreciate some help.

This is another disappointing update. Feels like the ad network is dying a slow death and focus has shifted towards direct sponsorships under the Max plan. I've found the opportunities in Q1 to have been pretty poor.

Aw man, this is disappointing to see as soon as my first ad report wrapped up and I only got $18, despite there being another 6 unique clicks from the web version. I know it's like $5 difference but I would have completely changed up my strategy had I been aware this is how the program operates. I think some additional feedback from someone brand new to monetizing my content would be creating better onboarding/education within the platform to set publishers up for success when creating content strategy for their audience so that ad partners can receive the best traffic. Nice to know for future issues. Not bad for only 209 subscribers though as a first ad!

The ad network is great. Gotta give beehiiv a break lol. Turns out that your audience isn’t that valuable if you don’t get ads. It’s probably very small and has no value for someone to advertise. Advertisers pay for eyeballs. The more eyeballs the more money. You need to invest in growth for years before focusing on monetizing. Like any media startup

I def agree regarding the ad network - honestly my newsletter has no business accepting ad requests yet 😂 but hey my subscribers, despite not having a lot, ate up enough for 1440 to send another ad request.

Brayden R. Don’t confuse audience size with performance if the metric that matters is clicks.

Eh. Clicks and opens are inflated. This is why TLDR ai has 3m subs and they only charge for impressions/delivered emails. And it’s not my opinion it’s the market. Selling ads when you have 200k+ readers has a higher demand than under 400. But keep it up. That’s the point of the game. It’s a start up tho. Get readers then monetize.

Yessir, I recognize I’m doing it backwards, I’m just having fun. 🫶🏻 Ads are being turned on in a couple weeks and that’s (hopefully) where the real subscribers will start rolling in.

My original issue was about where "eye balls" come from. For now, the Ad network and direct sponsorships only reward "eye balls" from emails. It essentially ignores those coming from Web. I get fairly significant amount of non-email traffic, so the question was - does Ad network have any way for me to monetize those "eye balls"
