Managing Unverified Pending Subscribers: Tips and Automation Ideas

Is there a way to "save" unverified pending subscribers? Like sending them another email other than the nudge after 48 hours, or to enroll them into a sequence? Putting them in a segment and enrolling that segment in an automation doesn't seem to work
