Setting Up a Referral Program with Limited Rewards in Beehiiv

·
·

Question: I'm setting up a referral program for my newsletter. I've made 24 pretty cool branded caps with a great supplier, and hoping to use them as referral rewards for 24 lucky subscribers who refer a certain number of new subs. These are caps I've physically got already (they're not dropshipped automatically etc). Is there a function in beehiiv where I can effectively pause/end the referral program once the first 24 people achieve the referral milestone? Because after that... I don't have any more caps for them. If anyone knows a good path here, I'd absolutely appreciate it! ❤️

Have you run referrals before? In my experience it is very slow, so if you are setting a high goal, I wouldn't stress too much 😅

But no, I haven't seen an option for that.

I was also looking for a way to use segments (essentially, I want to send referral gifts only to users in specific geos), but it doesn't appear that you can limit it to a particular audience. Would be interested if you have tried to set up anything similarly!

Ah, nice advice, thanks Curt B.. My hacked-together solution to avoid the runaway train is to toggle on the 'review before sending milestone email' option, so that i can choose who gets the milestone completion alert. It's not elegant, but I think it'll work. These are my hats! Going to set a relatively achievable milestone as I'm using them more for hype/PR than properly growing the list.

Those are great, Daniel G.! I'm a subscriber 😂. I think you have a good approach. Note that you can see subscribers' progress towards a referral bonus, so that plus "review before sending milestone email" should allow you to have a decent amount of control and oversight, even though it won't be as automated as it should... If you are worried about them going fast, you can always use include/exclude segments options when you send, and only include the referral block in your email to a smaller segment to test how quickly people accumulate referrals. Then you could get a gut feel before sending it to your full list.

Ah, first of all, thanks for subscribing Curt B.! Really appreciate it. And second of all, this makes sense, yes – maybe I should be so optimistic that it will go too quickly too 😅. But the milestone will be pretty doable, like 6 referrals. Appreciate it!
