Differences Between Modern Email Tools and Legacy Platforms

What would you say are the differences between a tool/service like Beehive or Substack (etc) and the "legacy" email marketing tools like Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc? Thanks

I used Mailchimp for a while and it always seemed very clunky and heavy to use vs. how beehiiv worrks
