Thought I'd share my welcome email header I just spent longer than I want to admit editing. π
Do you know, if someone is reading this in an inbox provider that doesn't support GIFs (like older Outlook versions) does it start with the empty background, or the whole image?
Hm, y'know what, that's a great question! I have not received feedback on this to test if it is or not (I have an animated GIF as a thumbnail & header in each issue). About 70% of my subscribers use Gmail however, so I've been adhering to their design standards at this point for maximum impact and ideal experience for readers. I also try to make sure they're optimized as much as possible without sacrificing framerate or choppiness.
Yeah, it's not a huge issue if most of your readers are coming from Gmail. But it could present some less than ideal presentation for users who have smaller, niche ESPs.
Just something to think about. It looks great, though!
Maybe I'll get a little spicy and segment out folks so that I can create accessible design templates specifically for them, or redirect them to read the web-version could resolve that.
Oh, pointing them to the web is always a nice solution for this stuff. We do that a lot with our City Cast newsletters (my day job is leading digital strategy for that national network of daily podcasts and newsletters).
